Speak Easy, Speak Love by McKelle George
3.0

I bought this book five years ago, one of the first books I remember ordering online for myself. It was a big moment and I just *knew* I was going to adore this book. Unfortunately, I think the girl who bought it five years ago would have enjoyed it more than the girl who read it five years later

I could fill a whole novel with why I didn't like the as a Much Ado About Nothing retelling. Why it just didn't work and ended up being like a severely watered down version of the story that fell flat and ruined every good thing Shakespeare packed into his play. But I'm not going to do that. I figured out pretty quickly that this was not a very good Much Ado retelling and read it as a separate book (save when I was trying to figure out why something was happening and lined it up with it's counterpart in the original play)

Instead I'll say I enjoyed parts of it: Hero and her sassy nature, we never get a sassy Hero and I adored it; Beatrice and her wonderful self; Beatrice and Hero's friendship; all the girls supporting girls
