How to Talk Dirty and Influence People by Lenny Bruce

challenging dark funny reflective sad tense medium-paced

4.0

There are definitely points that didn't age well, but they are all the more evident because it's easy to forget the context when his observations on race, class, religion, and politics can be applied today. He played a key role in why his commentary around language and sexuality can't be so easily. It took me a long time to get through this for many reasons, not the least of which is his scattered stream-of-consciousness voice-- not as easy to read as to listen to. It's hard not to wonder what else he might have said or whether his views would have evolved.
