Cracked Kingdom by Erin Watt

I really enjoyed the ending to Easton and Hartley's tale. For the first half of the book, I will be honest: I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. But the second half really picked up!
What happened to Hartley wasn't something I thought the authors would play with when I entered this series all the way at book 1. It's a different type of drama than the rest of the series, but I really appreciate they did. More so, the fact that she so far (or will never) get her memory back depressed me. I loved their interactions in book 1 of their story and I desperately wanted her to remember them. But once I finished the book, I took a few minutes to reflect/analyze the book, and I see how crucial and how much better it is that she doesn't. While we all loved their interactions in Fallen Heir, that book was merely a stepping stone for this one. We needed to meet Hartley and the type of character she's built up to be, while good ol' Easton, that we all know and love from Ella/Reed's story, tried so hard to get to know her. But despite their adorable friendship, the chances of them existing in a relationship was low. That's why the ending of Fallen Heir happened like it did--right to the end, she was mad he didn't listen to her. Her losing her memories managed to give her a fresh start from her past with her family and her past with Easton, to forget all she already knew about him, to forget the "old" him, and fall in love properly with the new one. Between Hartley and his brother, Easton needed all this to occur so that he could grow up and realize what is in front of him. so yes, while I may be bummed inside that she didn't recover her memories, I really see why she didn't: it allowed for a healthy and honest relationship for these two to bloom.
I heard this is the final Royal book, at least for a while. I would really like to see 1-2 more about the twins, especially with that ending! I think the authors could make that work, and given the female, I think it would be pretty funny. So we'll keep our fingers crossed that they plan on coming back to it one day. I appreciate the open ending regarding the twins so it does leave it available to be written but not necessary.
And speaking of that ending...I'm SO happy that took place in the book. I figured it would, but to see it go down is beautiful.
I guess I didn't say anything about the book, but just know I loved it. I'll leave the plot up to readers. I won't review it all.
Overall, I didn't enjoy this one as much as the other 4 books, but I did still really enjoy it. The Royals ruined me, and I hope there is a future for the twins so that they can continue to do so.
