Hands down one of the best books I read while I was in a slump. Because it took me right out of the slump and then it gave me hope in reading again.
Honestly, the more difficult and dark the subjects the less I feel like reading after I finish that type of book. But this book is actually very special to me. Although the storytelling is between two different timelines, it still features some really good retelling of mythology. Also, I learned about Yiddish language and its speakers as well as some stories from Hasidic Jewish families which I didn’t before.
It was truly colorful and a really nice twist on the story of Baba Yaga, as well as the magical realism plot regarding the children of immogrants.
