Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
5.0

Delicious! What a delightful, quaint, little storybook! My copy of the Wind in the Willows is from a secondhand bookstore—fully colored, glossy pages, and illustrated by E.H. Shepard. I’ve been meaning to get my hands on a copy but I’ve always put it aside. So you can only imagine how much of a goldmine that bookstore was when I finally saw Wind in the Willows!

The story about the Mole, Rat, Toad, and Badger is a timeless fairytale reminiscent of soft summer lulls, childhood afternoons, and idyllic playtime by the creek. I made sure I read it as slowly as possible, savoring each chapter as much as I could. The coziness of Badger’s home, the romantic and poetic glisten of Rat’s beloved river, the Christmasy feel of Dolce Domum chapter, everything felt so tingly while I was reading it. It’s a charming, whimsical book that I wish I had read for the first time when I was much younger. But its appeal and magic was as inspiring as I think it would be had I read it as a child.
