I had such high hopes for this book. It started out really strong, but gradually became predictable and honestly a little bit boring. the wordings and character descriptions also got a bit too repetitive.

the twist was... okay. like, yes, it was just as dark as I was hoping it would be, but I think it would have been better if Iris was revealed to have been the reason behind what happened to them as kids. grey should have just been a red herring, because that reveal was not really a reveal at all since it was way too predictable.

another thing that I have beef against was the decision to kill tyler. first, because I really liked him and I felt that grey deserved him, but also because I really hated how they went about with it. this book would have really benefited from some multiperspectivism because Tyler's death would have hit way harder if we saw it from Grey's perspective.

overall, a pretty solid read, but it did not reach my expectations. still better than three dark crowns though.
