I didn't enjoy the steamy scenes there was consistently something jarring or completely unbelievable about them. And I didn't believe the characters falling in love. This was really annoying though because it, in principle, was a really good romance story. The characters do feel like individuals and not like half baked stereotypes like a lot of romances. And they have a really good reason they can't be together.
There's so much of it that's so good but then there's stuff like Poppy trying to get Tyler to stop asking her for consent. I can see the point the author is trying to drive at with him being overly cautious and with the sub/dom stuff they're doing that not really working. So, up to this point I think it's more of a personal preference thing and she does essentially give him consent for this. BUT THEN he has a point where he thinks "I should really ask for consent for this new thing I'm going to try but I won't because I don't think I can stop". And she's fine with it so it's just a passing thought but it's also supposed to be a change in his character because he wasn't able to do that before. Anyway, I would have felt much better about it if they had discussed safe words or something like that. I feel like some people would like this sort interaction in a fictional story and I guess there were indicators that this might happen so maybe this is just on me. But it felt like it wasn't handled with the same care that the author had for the rest of this complicated love story so I'm a little disappointed.
