Daughter of Sparta by Claire M. Andrews

5.0

Daughter of Sparta is a new take on a few Greek myths and a super fun ride. I listened to this on Audible and it was extremely engaging and sucked me right in. Daphne is an immediately likeable character, with her Spartan warrior ways and strong belief in herself. Her banter with Apollo and Lykou was the perfect tension breaker throughout the story. Anyone who remotely appreciates Greek mythology with accepting changes to the myths you may know, would love this book.

Daphne lives in Sparta but has always been perceived as an outsider. She and her two brothers were orphaned when she was young, and brought into Sparta when they were children. Daphne does what she can to prove herself and bring honor to her family, but when Artemis, goddess of the hunt, seeks Daphne out to help save Olympus, she must choose the greater good or she might lose more than she ever imagined. Finding 9 items that were stolen from Olympus might be hard, but at least she has Apollo to help guide her. But can she trust him?

I personally really enjoy the take on the few myths in this story, including Daphne and Apollo, The Midas Curse, and the Minotaur. I thoroughly also enjoyed the reader, Brittany Pressley, as she was engaging and kept up a good pace. My favorite character was Lykou, but who doesn't love the animals in stories? I can't wait to be able to read book 2, and see where the journey goes!
