Shift by Hugh Howey

5.0

I finished reading this about a week back but didn't have time to review it--hopefully I will remember enough a week out to give a good review. This book had so many cool narrative elements in it, all of which basically would spoil their effect if I were to review them! The fact that this was at the same time prequel and sequel and interquel to Wool made it at first confusing, but later very satisfying. I thought the way Howey explained some of the history behind the Silos was very clever, introducing a new protagonist who had page time across several time periods, let's call them shifts, for lack of a better word (oh look, hence the title!). I could hardly NOT read this book given how much I enjoyed the previous volume. My review seems to have degenerated into fluff mixed with worthless ramble, so I'll end it with this: both Wool and Shift set up the third book, and I'm already hunting for it so I can add it to my reading queue!
