Gorgeous hero’s journey tale that thoroughly drew me in, with a charming appreciation for place, ethical and emotional considerations, a few maps, and just the right amount romance but an emphasis on strong friendships and inter-generational camaraderie. Though the second book in a series, Divya smoothly summarizes the prequel set 16 years before with a mostly different cast, so Loka could be read independently, but I so enjoyed both, I’d recommend picking up Meru to read about Jayanthi’s quest first, then enjoying her daughter Akshaya’s adventures in Loka.
