The Second Sherlock Holmes short story collection is not quite as good as the first but it's still essential for introducing several characters to the mythos. Let's take it tale by tale.
The Adventure of Silver Blaze - A really fantastic Holmes adventure to open this collection, really seeing Holmes at his best. It's honestly disappointing that it's not a more well known story 4.5/5
The Adventure of the Yellow Face - Absolutely fantastic, if short, story that has such a fantastic twist that neither the reader or Holmes himself are prepared for. 4.5/5
The Adventure of the Stockbroker’s Clerk - A slight story with an unsatisfying ending but it's written well so it's definitely above average. 3/5
The Adventure of the “Gloria Scott” - The first Holmes story where Holmes recounts a past adventure to Watson is rather interesting, although more so because of a young Holmes than the mystery itself. 3/5
The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual - An interesting experiment using Holmes as narrator to Watson but it's not as interesting as the stories preceding it. 2.5/5
The Adventure of the Reigate Puzzle - A fun little story with Holmes showing his guile more than usual and Watson showing his dedication. 3/5
The Adventure of the Crooked Man - Definitely on the upswing with this story, with the addition of an animal not identified until later being a big part of the appeal. 3.5/5
The Adventure of the Resident Patient - Despite being a tale of murder, really not that interesting in my eyes. 2.5/5
The Adventure of the Greek Interpreter - Much better adventure with intrigue and violence and the debut of Mycroft as a supporting character. 3.5/5
The Adventure of the Naval Treaty - A decent enough story with better characters than some in this collection but still not a scratch on the better Holmes stories. 3/5
The Adventure of the Final Problem - Ending with one of the best short Sherlock Holmes stories, this one is an all-time classic and introduced Moriarty to the canon, even if he isn't very developed in this story. 4/5
