Dearly Devoted Dexter by Jeff Lindsay
4.0

Can I really describe a book about a murderous sociopath as fun? Yes!

In book 2, Dexter returns. He's a 30-ish forensics specialist with the Miami police department, who happens to have a Dark Passenger. Some disturbing incident in his early childhood left him different. Only his adopted father Harry can take credit for his seemingly normal appearance. Harry taught him to blend in and use his dark side for the good - to take out those that escape the law.

In this book, Dexter teams up again with his sister Deb, this time to capture a butcher on the loose. Turns out this one has a tie to Central America operations supported by the US government and a disliked police officer in the Miami department. Well, it's mutual dislike between Dexter and Sergaent Doakes.

I admit upfront that I've watched the TV series (thru season 4) and love it. The books are escapist reading with creative language when it comes to the thoughts of Dexter.

This second book veers away from the TV series (or the other way around) and I have to say I preferred the story line of the book.
