The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst

5.0

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Warm, whimsical, and impossibly charming.

The Spellshop captured my heart from the very first page. Kiela is a librarian turned fugitive who rescues spellbooks and escapes to her childhood home with her snarky sentient spider plant assistant, Caz. What unfolds is a gentle yet magical story about opening a secret spellshop under the guise of selling jam—a journey full of found family, soft romance, and just the right amount of magic.
The tone is cozy and comforting, exactly like drinking hot chocolate in a quiet cottage—light-hearted, optimistic, and full of small wonders. The setting is vibrant and imaginative on its own, but the local characters—like Larran, Bryn, and Eadie—make it feel truly alive and homey.

Caz has quickly become a favorite sidekick: snarky, hilarious, and utterly lovable. Their quippy companionship had me laughing every other page. And while the low-stakes setup might not dazzle readers craving high-action fantasy, the emotional warmth and clever, character-driven story more than make up for it.

Though the plot is straightforward, I found myself utterly enchanted by the thoughtful character growth, the subtle political undertones, and the joy of magic rooted in recipes, plants, and community. This is a spellbinding comfort read—uplifting, humorous, and full of heart.
