Duke of Shadows is an excellent adventure romance. I am a devotee of Gaelen Foley's Regency romance novels, but one of the most important reasons I am a loyal reader for her books is related to the balance of adventure that she infuses into her books. They are just the right blend of both: adventure + romance is a heady mix. I am always thrilled to read her latest novel, and this one was no different.
Her heroine is feisty, smart, and adventurous with skills that assist and complement the hero's skills, and are not just for the ballroom or society. What I especially like about the hero of this particular installment is his depth. He is not all one thing or another; he has many facets, and it is not an easy story. Though predictable in terms of the HEA ending, it was not predictable in terms of emotional responses by characters.
In short it was a fun read and should make the top of anyone's summer reading/beach read lists!
