Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
5.0
Good read! Although I didn't really like the instalove, for it was too sudden and out-of-the-blue and perfect, the rest of the story and worldbuilding captivated me. I loved Ruby and Sparrow's moment of sisterhood and putting each other first instead of fighting for a boy, and also, quite curiously, Minya. She was a little psycho, but every time she remembered the Carnage I felt for her. The whole Mesarthim thing..., well, I did expect Lazlo to have some role in the destruction of the citadel, but I thought it would be only because of a particularly strong spirit to distill azoth from. And although I somehow had the feeling that he was going to be related to the godspawn somehow, and particularly to Minya, I still felt surprised! Now I can't help but wonder whether all the orphans in the monastery he grew up in are godspawn as well, and what's behind Skathis's systematic collecting women. Even though I wasn't hooked at all when I began reading Strange the Dreamer, it managed to improve and make me want to go on reading. Going now for the sequel, Muse of Nightmares!
