Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Volume 2: Enemies Old, Enemies New by Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz

2.0

Haven't read a TMNT comic before. Wouldn't recommend starting with this one. It's clear there's stuff I missed from the first volume, and it ends on a cliffhanger.

I don't think the serious, gritty tone really worked with all the silly, ridiculous stuff going on. Mutant animals, space aliens, reincarnation, ninjas. It's just too much when played straight. I actually much prefer to just think that the mutation Splinter went through also made him functionally insane and the whole reincarnation thing he believes is a delusion that he's wrapped the turtles into. Not only is that more fun and more believable, it's a lot less tragic. Because what's the point of fighting a mortal enemy if you're all just going to keep getting reincarnated and end up fighting all over again? There's no payoff.

I also wasn't thrilled with the art style. It's not terrible, but it's not as clean and logical as I'd prefer.
