We Are Not Free by Traci Chee
5.0
Powerful. Poetic. Raw. Human.
We Are Not Free is an absolute masterpiece that left me laughing and choking down tears with each page.
Despite the large task of following 14 teens through their experiences in internment camps, she fully captures each of their personalities and stories. I felt like I knew these kids on a personal level and so badly wanted to fight for them.
I could not put this one down. Traci Chee illuminates a horrific scar on American history when our own citizens were treated as traitors. Chee laces humanity, tradition, and poignancy in every sentence she writes.
She encourages her readers to fight for what they believe in. Chee also showcases the importance of living life with gaman.
