Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
3.0

I had this book sitting on my shelf ever since it came out. The Hulu adaptation just dropped, and we're quarantined, so it's the perfect time to finally pick it up.

The lives of two families - one headed by an itinerant single mother and artist, the other by the picture-perfect suburban soccer mom - are upended by a court case that polarizes their community, and their own secrets. The book explores race, class, privilege, motherhood. I think it would inspire a dynamic book club discussion. In fact, I found myself wishing I was reading this with a book club because I didn't think the author went deep enough when exploring those topics. It's like that person who has good intentions to be a good ally, but their words speak louder than their actions. It's very readable and I enjoyed the story, but I wanted more substance.
