Hopeless by Elsie Silver
3.0

I wasn’t ready for this series to end. It’s taken a place in my heart, especially the supporting characters like Harvey and Gary. Elsie Silver did a good job not only making main characters we can root for but also side characters who jump off the page. This was a good ending to a feel good series and I can’t wait to see where Elsie Silver takes us next.

With that said, I gave this book 3.5 stars because first off, I just don’t like the age gap trope and whenever the age difference was brought up in this book it gave me the ick so if that’s not your trope of choice either keep that in mind. I also felt this book needed to be longer because Beau and Bailey felt like more complex than the other leading couples in this series. They both have experienced some pretty intense things that for me, I felt needed more pages to fully flush out and for proper character development. I also felt that when serious topics would come up, the author would brush past them quickly. For example, Beau clearly has PTSD but it’s kind of glossed over. No therapy. No talking to his family and only one conversation with Bailey. I also would have loved more interaction between Gary and Bailey. When did he develop a soft spot for her? She’s about to make a big change in a new city and that could have been a good opportunity for Gary and Bailey to have a heart to heart, reminding her that there was someone else who always saw how special she was. The author had the opportunity to go deeper with this book and I would have liked to see that.
