The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez

5.0

This book follows our female main character (Sloan) who lost her fiance in a tragic accident two years prior. She's dealing with a ton of grief surrounding it and is having a hard time moving past it (understandably so). One day, she comes across a loose dog and takes it back to her place while she tries to contact the owner. The owner just so happens to be a huge singer (Jason) who has left his dog with someone he thought he could trust while he was overseas without cell service for two weeks. When he finally is able to call her back, Sloan has decided she's going to keep the dog. But then she feels bad about it and promises to watch the dog until he's back in the States and can pick him up.

These two talk on the phone the entire time he's gone and they start developing a little romance. But, Jason is going to be on tour for an extended period of time. And Sloan has to ask herself if this situation is really something she's ready to deal with.

I loved this book because it's an interconnected standalone with another of Abby Jimenez's books, The Friend Zone. Sloan is a side character in that book and I loved seeing her story. I think Abby Jimenez does a great job at portraying her grief and it just broke my heart honestly. That's what Abby Jimenez does so well — she's able to simultaneously make you laugh with witty banter and TEAR YOUR HEART OUT at the same time. I've officially read all of her books (that are out as of right now) and I've given them all five stars. 100% would recommend.
