i wanted to love this bc the premise is so good but um

this has got poor dialogue and repetitive prose and imagery that felt so fake deep and quirky. the characters are interesting in theory but they do not function or act like real people and they become to annoying so quickly and there are like ten side characters that could have been condensed into three or four. grace as a character is far more interesting in the last quarter, but has one personality trait up to that point (she has to be perfect!). yuki’s podcast is interesting but it only serves as a gateway for shoddy prose about the monsters within us and she is a blank slate beyond that. also the single sex scene in this is so.... anyways.

i did appreciate how grace’s self-harm was handled. i also actually really liked the last quarter and the exploration of grace’s relationship with her mom and step dad, but it could not redeem the first 250 or so pages like please who in real life calls their besties and lovers and CHILDREN by their full name in casual conversation like what in the wattpad
