It's interesting coming back to this book after not having read it in 15 years or so. I don't think it's as good as I thought it was in middle school, but damn if it didn't scare me away from drugs for sure. Now as an adult I have more problems with the situation in the book as a whole, but this book wasn't written for "adult" me. I think it can be a helpful portrait painted for teens/tweens who were my age when I first read it (12).
