I would not suggest this book as a stand-alone read. It is a further exploration of the original Earthsea trilogy and a lot of the weight of the story (which is significant, I think) relies on knowledge of the previously established world. The ending felt a little rushed and thin but it didn’t sour my experience with the rest of the story.
