The It Girl by Ruth Ware

1.0

Still have yet to find a thriller I like. Characters were very 2D, the nerd roommate, the boyfriend that doesn’t really love her, the group of friends. The roommate cycles through all of the options of who could have killed April, one by one accusing all of her friends and now husband. It felt like there weren't really any clues until the end on who killed April, only info that showed the kind of person April was (kinda a bitch), how the relationship between Hannah and Will grew, and why Hannah accused who she did. The clues that are discovered are either ignored and never brought up again(April being pregnant) or lies to get us to believe that one of the friends did it. I don't really understand how the guy Hannah accused was convicted in the first place. The ending, where it is finally revealed that Hugh killed April because she was blackmailing him. April found out that Hannah and Will were having an affair (never mind that she was also cheating on him) and so wanted to prank them by pretending to be dead. Hugh was helping out, telling Hannah that she was dead and to go call the police. While she was out of the room he strangled her for real and killed her. Hannah finally figures this out and so he kidnaps her and is going to kill her but Will shows up as well to save her. The wrestle, Will is shot but lives, Hugh is shot and dies in a boring thriller twist. Hugh turns from a normal guy into a criminal mastermind, and then there is that dumb cliched thing where we think Will is dead for a while. I hated it.
