A book that screams beach read with it’s stunning setting and cute story, this book delivers on expectations but doesn’t exceed them. Sybil is an outgoing woman who’s had multiple serious relationships, and therefore has some serious baggage. Jamie, her most recent fiancé (now ex) is introduced early on in the story and there was tension and chemistry from the beginning. One can rarely complain about a story set in Hawaii either….I just wish I was reading the story there :)
For me, some of the logistics could have pushed this story over the top. Seb, ex #2, was a fun character but his entrance to the action was a little late and clunky. If introduced earlier, I feel like his character had so much extra potential. Another pet peeve of mine is when multiple traumas are used in stories and therefore neither gets the attention it deserves. This book has some heavy topics—TBD I was surprised there wasn’t a trigger warning at the start of the book listing them. For me, if these were trimmed down and really examined by Sybil, the story would have been better developed. By adding multiple, I felt like things get glossed over and become messy (SPOILER: i.e. the timeline of Liam’s relationship is choppy and really long even though it’s described in a few sentences, Sybil’s time in Las Vegas/Dallas is glanced over…like what happened in Dallas?).
With the said, as a romance book, the story delivers the dynamics of second chance love that readers will melt while reading. Yes there are some crazy hi jinx but they add to the story. Overall this was a fun read!
