Babysitter by Joyce Carol Oates

4.0

This book contains very little dialog and is told in a not exactly linear timeline, so if you don't like that, you may not enjoy this one.

Hannah is having an affair with a mysterious, yet dangerous man in 1977 amidst the child killings by a killer named Babysitter. The book mostly focuses on Hannah, what's happening to her, and her thoughts and feelings about her own life as well as what's going on around her. There were times I wanted to shake Hannah and scream at her to, " Wake the eff up!" She's an unlikable character, but so is almost everyone else in this book. With all the unlikableness, Oates still weaves a story that kept me intrigued. Not everything was quite as it seemed, and even though not all my questions were answered, I still enjoyed this one a lot.
