i ADORED this. it was lovely to jump into my first japanese novel; as a manga enjoyer and studio ghibli obsessed, i could see the similarities in storytelling.

i think some people could complain the writing style is more "tell than show" but there's a beauty in the way japanese writers (as far as i've read and seen) convey the beauty in the simplicity of life, the intensity feelings can have without having to scream and shout them. this book—in its own magical way—celebrates mundanity and human connections. and i think this novel was heartwarming because of all of this.

“would you say the cast of characters is diverse?” i answered yes. it’s a japanese story, a japanse setting, with japanese characters. but the characters are all peculiar in their own way, you could find your match inside these pages <3
