Don't know how to treat and rate this one, as I've just finished my fourth reread of this book. I always start from the beginning when I want to go through the Witcher saga, but I’ve still never managed to finish it, maybe this time it’s finally the right moment!!
This is the reason why now I don't have particularly strong feelings about this book or about what happens in it. I know the Witcher world pretty well, so I can't accurately judge how well the author introduces witchers, the magic system, or the other characters.
However! One weaker point for me is the geography. My edition doesn’t have a map (not sure about the others), and the author rarely specifies which country we’re in, usually we’re just given a town’s name. The timeline of events can also be confusing.

♡ Loved:
- Geralt's history, exploration of his ethics, beliefs and worldview
- Geralt's internal struggles with identity and destiny
- moments when Geralt is in the wrong, feels emotions and behaves like a human being rather than a trained witcher
- the main side characters, especially Renfri (.....)
- repeating story titles within the stories themselves, giving them meaning
- almost no one is purely a black or white character
- The Voice of Reason 4 chapter
☘︎ ݁Appreciated:
- references to childhood fairytales
- world exploration, with each story giving a different atmosphere and vibe
- complexity of Geralt's relationship with
Yennefer , her introduction - slow, piece-by-piece worldbuilding that lets readers gradually discover how everything works
✖ Didn't like:
- confusing politics and geography for someone new to the world
- confusing timeline, still not sure the order in which these stories take place
- plot can seem too slow at times, I can see why somebody can consider the book boring
- that we've never told the exact last wish
⚠ Hated: nothing
Graphic: Death, Gore, Violence, Blood, Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Sexism
Minor: Racism, Sexual content, Alcohol
