Immortal Reign by Morgan Rhodes

3.0

this series wasnt bad, but overall very disappointing.
this time the only interesting character was amara (and maybe nerissa or ashur, if they appeared more), i didnt even really care for magnus in this book.

most characters annoyed me as they did in each installment so im mostly just repeating myself - cleo was never the cunning mastermind she was described as, jonas was just boring, lucia pissed me off. this time even magnus was bland.
i liked felix, nerissa and ashur, just wish their characters were more explored.
my favorite was amara, it feels like shes the only character with actual depth to her.

i guess thats all i can say without spoiling anything, so the next part is all SPOILERS.

okay this will be a little (a lot) incomprehensible but i literally just finished the book and need to get in out of me.
why did anybody give a fuck when the king died?? didnt magnus and lucia forget he killed their mom? and cleos dad died because of him? and also numerous more auranians? were just forgetting that? ok.
and dont get me wrong, i like cleo and magnus together, but why did she not fight for her throne at all? like she just stopped giving a shit. her whole family is dad but her biggest problem is that she cant fuck magnus? i know that they had to focus on the kindred and whatever but still. she coulve shown at least a semblance of the cunning everyone in this book tried to convince me she had, because at least then her relationship with magnus would seem so stockholm syndromy.
why did they try to make amara such a bad person? like yeah, she stabbed her brother, i was mad at her also. but her family deserved it? like that scene was one of the best in this series. i loved the idea of her and nerissa, had it been realized more i might have given this more stars.
why the fuck did cleo run to the kindred when kyan threaned to burn the city?? like am i missing something? because i remember him saying that is they completed the ritual he would burn the world?? maybe my mat is wrong but the golden city is a part of it?
same goes for lucia and her baby, would it also doe in the whole destroying the world thing?
oh, and did every hetero relationship have to be explored?? like event in the first book, the incest wasnt necessary, it didnt even impact the books really. and jones and cleo also wasnt necessary (even though i sorta liked them together at the beggining). lucia and jonas made even less sense.
ok these might be all my thoughts now, but i might add something in the morning lol.
