margoja 's review for:
The Memory Keeper's Daughter
by Kim Edwards
I still can't decide how I feel about the plot. I wanted to hear more from Caroline as Phoebe grew up. I would give the plot 3 stars since I felt there were some points lacking (it was just too unrealistic), but I had to bump my review up to 4 stars because of Edwards' style and imagery. The theme of photography throughout the book brought the vastly different lives together, and Edwards' use of all five senses to describe scenes makes you feel like you are actually there. I thought her use of the sense of smell to describe people, and their warmth, which was mentioned often, was unique and stood out to me. I look forward to reading her next book to see how she can use her strengths to improve her writing.
