Heart Trouble by Jae

3.0

When Laleh Samadi's heart stopped after arriving at the ER, Dr. Hope Finlay was the one who brought her back to life. But afterwards, Laleh gained medical knowledge and Hope understood Farsi. The pair set out to learn more about this new bond they shared and each other.

When I started reading this contemporary romance, I had no idea it was somewhat paranormal. But it worked perfectly. A little weird, but perfect nonetheless.

Laleh and Hope had parts of themselves in each other's mind, and that made them almost impossible to hide anything from the other. Since a substantial portion of the book was on them figuring out their bond, there were not a lot of other things going on in the story. But in addition to their relationship, there were many references to Laleh's Persian culture. And I really appreciate the Iranian-American representation, especially when most wlw romance characters seemed to be white. When will I finally stumble upon some books with at least one East Asian main character?

“Just don’t shut me out.” – Laleh (& Hope)

Heart Trouble was good as I learned that all Jae's works are (I have read more than ten): good vibes only, slow burn, and always sweet and uplifting. The best thing about Laleh and Hope's romance was the openness between them. Though forced by the bond they shared, I think Jae wrote this book to demonstrate what complete honesty in thoughts and emotions looks like. The result was the beautiful relationship between Laleh and Hope.
