In the sequel to The Black Echo, we have Harry Bosch at odds again, with his boss (and his boss), within the police department.

He is the consumate outsider. He has alliances with people, but the goal of his investigate trumps/conquers all other alliances.

He isn't there to lick boots/kiss ass. He is there to find the truth and expose corruption.

In this cast, another person he's known, has been "killed", and he needs to find out who did it, though that isn't assigned to him, though he endeavors to understand what "actually" happened.

He's a sympathetic character, but he's also obstinate and bull-headed, and IF you had known him in real life, he probably get on your last nerve, though you'd respect his tenacity, but not all his reasonings (and especially not all his actions).

This book takes place, in Los Angeles and Mexico. He is searching for WHO killed his friend, but also what had he gotten mixed up in. Loved the entaglements that occur during this tale.

I will reread this book, some day. On to The Concrete Blonde (3rd book in the Harry Bosch series).
