“My Neighbor Has Been Staring at the Moon for Hours.”

This novella is part of a collection curated by Sadie Hartmann to represent some of her horror fiction today. It was written by L.P. Hernandez, and wow! This is a fun and emotional one.

In a mix of horror and science fiction people start fixating on the stars and becoming hollow, we don't know when, we don't know how and, most importantly, I guess; we don't know why!
We cleverly alternated between internet forums and the everyday life of a small family (Judith, Hector and sweet Penny) dealing with their personal fears and now, the end of the world.

I found the writing very smart and well paced and was pleasantly surprised by the heart of it all. The novella could have been a bit longer, and the ending is quite open, which I know some people don't like, but it was enough for me. This could easily be a solid Twilight Zone episode!

Congrats on a great story Hernandez, will be looking for of their work! As well as more from Hartmann! Enjoy your reading folks! And careful with the stars!
