This was an emotional book about living within the confines of the patriarchy, specifically the patriarchy within the Italian family construct in the first half of the 20th century. As you review the life of Stella Fortuna, you become hopefully attached - I was inspired by and at times, felt incredibly sorry for her. An amazing book.
