I don't know why I'm struggling to read this series; it's been rough. It's not that I dislike the books, they are just not clicking with my brain like ACOTAR did. I did enjoy the short story format for this as they were drastically different and would have felt weird as one book.
I've read these out of order (read books 1 and 2, then these stories) and I'm not sure how I feel about this order. On one had it was nice to get into the main story without too much of Caleana's background, but I think I would have enjoyed the 2nd book more knowing about her history.
