The Princess Saves Herself in This One
by Amanda Lovelace
I remember how popular this was back in 2016, but I had never read it before. So I thought I'd give it a read because I love poetry and I was curious to see what made this so popular.
mini review:
- there is certainly some raw emotion in these poems
- the poet has a fierce voice
- most of the poems are rather simple
- could probably use more imagery and poetic devices
- some of the concepts could have been better executed
- the poetry style is, in my personal opinion, a bit dated (as in, this style of poetry from the 2010s did not age well)
- i can see why this is so popular - it is certainly relatable and the poet's voice commands your attention
- i feel this would work great as starter poetry for young women/femme identifying people in high school!
