fascinating information; I'll never see trees or forests the same way again. really gives depth to how alien other life forms here on earth are, as well as how surprisingly similar they can be. also always great to be reminded how no individual lives in a vacuum; each tree is dependent on the ecosystem and surrounding trees. the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and perhaps more complicated and nuanced than we as yet understand.

I wasn't however, a huge fan of his writing style. the topic changes were at times scattered. it presents scientific information in a colloquial easy-to-read style, which is why I decided to read this, but his anthropomorphism sometimes obscured the academic conclusions, and I also found it cringeworthy in its cutesy-ness.

still worth reading!
