I knew that the book would be different to the film, but I was anticipating kinda more detail in places, more lore or smth rather than several entirely different plot points. I did enjoy the extra detail with regard to the world & OASIS, and know why the film directors did not include certain aspects, namely to make the separation between Gregarious "good corporation" and IOI "bad corporation" more clean-cut, and to make the main character more likeable. That was a problem I had with book Wade: there were several moments when I knew that I would probably not like him if he was a real person.
Primarily this was in the way he would talk about women, particularly his so-called love interest, which from my side at least looked rather obsessive? There was also a comment which came off as slightly transphobic to me which was never discussed
. So basically it was interesting to see the extra development of the world and story in the books, but I probably won't be reading the sequel.
