snpf 's review for:
The Daughter of Time
by Josephine Tey
Only ok, part of the problem being classified on the cover as "one of the greatest mysteries of all time," which obviously vastly raised my (and I'm sure countless others') expectations. I find it interesting that the author pokes holes at historian theories, yet, nothing here can be proven, so there is a letdown at the end that this, too, is simply theoretical. Finally, you have to really give a rip about British history, which, personally, other than thinking Elizabeth I was a kick ass woman in history, as an American I'm kind of meh on the whole concept of the British monarchy. The characters throughout are what made me hang in there, really liked all the strong women characters, liked Grant, even the various minor characters were interesting, hence the rating of 2, but you really have to be in the mood for a history lesson more than a typical mystery.
