Court of Ice and Ash
by LJ Andrews
This was fun. I stayed awake far too late to finish it. I enjoyed the politics at play and the ever shifting balance of power. Things that the first book set up came full circle. The interpersonal relationships were my drag in this one as most characters spent most of the book with their heads up their asses. Balance is an interesting theme that without being explicitly stated, shows up in a number of ways. And while I know that Legion Grey didn’t technically exist, it felt like some of what I found charming about him was gone with the breaking of his curse. One of the things I liked most was his intelligence and his ability to talk circles around the idiots around him. His role in this book is much more muscle and much less courtier, so I hope we get a balance between the two in book three. The “twist” at the end was obvious, but very curious to see how it resolves.
