i read this book because i watched bong joon ho’s adaptation of it and loved it. i’m fascinated by how similar it was to the movie and how completely different it was, but i suppose that’s what made it such a good screenplay- you can see hints of the movie in the book (just because i watched it movie then book) but it’s like looking through a fun house mirror, just a bit off from how it went in the movie.
i think i would have loved to see nasha a lot more in the book, just because i adored her character so much in the film, and i loved how she was established in the early chapters as someone who really cared about mickey and didn’t see him as expendable just because he could be reprinted. having seven be the narrator and spend so much time with cat, while eight spent time with nasha, was kind of jarring once the book wound down and we did get to see seven and nasha together, especially after the intimacy that seven and cat built up, even if it wasn’t sexual or romantic.
overall i enjoyed it! i’m going to look into the second book and see if i want to read it.
