Lies, Lies, Lies by Adele Parks

2.0

Yikes… I’m pretty bummed. I really was not a fan of this one and I’d had such high hopes after being strongly recommended it. I just felt a mixture of discomfort and impatience throughout 90% of the book and then at the end when it was finally getting exciting, it ended in such a quick, unlikely, and unnecessary way. And the epilogue was just… I don’t have words. There was so much in the book that I don’t think was relevant at all, like all of the asides and drama about the Dales while Simon was in prison, that didn’t really add to the story at all. And I also just feel like the writing style was repeating the same thoughts that the characters had over and over. This conflict in the book was unpleasant but not in the ways that you hope for in a thriller, it was just uncomfortable. I will say, though, that I did not see a couple of those twists coming, I just wish they’d been used better and that the rest of the book was cleaned up a bit.
