I’m not sure I can give this book a rating. It is written with such raw feeling and details, so purely from a writing standpoint, it was well done and I couldn’t seem to put it down. But there were points in this book I felt physically ill with the realities these children faced and I’m not sure I can wholeheartedly recommend it for others to read because it was so heavy and difficult to take in. It took so much courage for Shari to write her story and I respect the way she didn’t share the stories or personal details of her younger siblings to respect their own voices that were stolen for so long.
