I had kind of a rocky start with this one. The world here is very strange in that it's seemingly medieval fantasy, but the main character uses very modern slang, and that threw me off for the first 25 or so pages. However, once the plot got going I found myself easing into the over the top campiness of things and just accepting what the author handed me, and once that happened I quickly fell in love. I don't think this book will be for everyone. It has the same saying that Ice Planet Barbarians has where most of the book is really lighthearted and fun and campy, but there are moments of intense violence and realism, and I know from people's responses to IPB that that's not going to work for everyone. I, however, am not bothered by that and so found this to be a really fun, quick read. I really loved the main character, and her romance with the hero was both cute and steamy, and the plot was just enough to keep me engaged without taking away from the lightheartedness of the story or the centering of the romance. I really look forward to reading more from this author and from this world, and I'm really glad that I took a chance on it.
