going to be completely honest here, i started skimming 650 pages in, and it is fair to say that it was a dnf at 720. this is an example of a great book that is not very good. george shows a solid command over the scope of the story, but since it is written like a history book in third person omniscient, there is little interiority into the characters. after characters die, there is barely any breathing room for the plot or for their loved ones to grieve their losses. after rhaenyra’s death i found it very hard to care. and jacaerys velaryon…
