I Can't Sleep
by JE Rowney
3.5 stars
This was a quick read, finished it in one day. Once again I am left torn. The story was good. It was quite a slow start, the author feeding us information little by little.
The big twist in the end? It was ok. I should have seen it coming, but I did not.
I don’t want to say I was disappointed by the backstory with Jordan. Tragic? Yes. But I expected something else. Maybe something bigger? Yes, the death of her brother is a tragic event and I understand her feeling guilty. Still I imagined a hundred different scenarios.
All in all, I actually liked the way it ended. I liked that there was not the usual Happy Ending. It also turned out that Callie was not as sweet as Becky wanted her to be.
My negative? They could have left out the bit with the cat. That’s my trigger, my pet peeve. I can’t stand animal cruelty in books…. Go and edit that away, will you? That always gets me and even ruins a book for me. Meh.
