Between the Lines by Samantha van Leer, Jodi Picoult
3.0

*2.75

One second I want to give it 3 stars because 'it wasn't THAT bad and at times I enjoyed it. But then the next second I think about the moment that made me cringe and I want to give it 2.5 stars so I settle with this.

This book is simply not for me, maybe it was something for my younger me, the one who ate up the selection series, but not now, I could definitely see how this is great for certain people but the moments I cringed were just too often.

I want to seperately address the mermaids, who "in real life" are men haters, only pages later they are called feminists and the connection between the two is often made. The fact that this is a thing that is often named anyway is bad enough, but the fact that it is in a book, it made me so much more uncomfortable. It really felt very wrong.

Overall I didn't very much care for the characters, which probably has to do with the fact that I didn't connect with one at all. It felt flat for me.

(Oh yeah another thing, of course the princes who likes the prince is an airhead just do the plot can easily move on. I don't know I hate it when woman are so often portrait as airheads and it wasn't even subtle it was literally said out loud multiple times.

To be fair the only reason why this books gets any stars from me at all is because the story itself was interesting, it was an interesting idea and something I overall love to see in a book. But thinking about how I didn't like so many things i'm seriously reconsidering giving it 2.5 stars after all
