Trauma Room Two by Philip Allen Green

4.0

I am on a mission, you see I have spent the past two years loosing almost all faith in doctors. I have stumbled upon a lot who are clearly not in the field for the right reasons. Now I am blessed with a few good doctors but thanks to those who have left me with what can only be called medical trauma, I find myself waiting for the "shoe to drop" with my good doctors. So why would I read this book, because I am trying to see if there are any good doctors left, and simultaneously figure out what turns doctors cold and un-compassionate. Having been a patient in the ER many times and in a few trauma rooms, this book seemed like a start into the emergency medicine portion of the medical field.
It confirmed my thoughts that some ER doctors have seen so much they have to turn cold, they are overworked and understaffed. This problem is nationwide.
This was a great read, the author is at times a little too descriptive but for the readers who have not been in the hospital or worked in care giving it helps. Dr. Green does show the burn out end of ER medicine. Although I have only had a few rough encounters with a few ER doctors whom I did not get along with this book will hopefully remind me that they may have had to tell a loved one someone has died just before seeing you. This book does have a lot of death, but that is what trauma rooms are mostly for, those who are clinging on for dear life and need more interventions. Good read, nice short stories, the last one will melt your heart.
I will continue to read books like this and others by this author to help my point of view on doctors and hopefully help me learn that not all have lost their passion and compassion.
