Scared Little Rabbits by A.V. Geiger

1.0

Nora was looking forward to participating in the Winthrop Summer Maker Program. After the body of one of the participants is found in a lake some students believe she is responsible. How could Nora convince others of her innocence when the other participants never liked her? After a prologue which teases the disappearance of that student, the novel goes back to Nora’s first day in the program where she meets and immediately becomes infatuated with Maddox. What follows is a bunch of chapters about life in the program. The student doesn’t disappear until more than halfway into the book. The teens in this book feel like an adult’s idea of how a teen speaks and acts. Speaking of adults, where are they? Nothing in this book would have happened if there was any type of adult supervision. Considering the book entirely takes place during a summer session at a school, the lack of adult oversight is unrealistic. The entire book feels artificial from the characters to the plot to the dialogue. It doesn’t help that most of the novel consists of poorly done teen drama with a few chapters turning into a thriller without much thrills. There are a lot of smart YA mystery/thrillers like One of Us Is Lying and the Truly Devious series that provide both thrills and juicy teenage drama.

Thanks Edelweiss+ for providing an ARC for this book.
