Sweet Lamb of Heaven by Lydia Millet

3.0

The language is almost poetic which raises this novel above the average. Reminiscent of a Stephen King, Anna runs with her young daughter from her unfaithful, unfeeling cruel and ambitious husband. There is a thread of the uncommon as Anna and the people who also stay at the motel she is hiding out in all have heard voices. As Anna's husband pursues her, the danger ramps up. The premise is compelling and the tension terrific but the mystical voices aspect become convoluted and ultimately an almost unnecessary distraction.
